Education for Life & Work programme
Education and Employment are key parts of the Supporting theme in the Discover Dunblane BID business plan. As part of this initiative we have been working with Dunblane High School to develop an Education for Life and Work programme. There are a number of parts to the programme, with a key element providing an opportunity for 5th year pupils to gain work experience in the Dunblane business community. A pilot programme took place in November 2016 to identify, organise and facilitate work experience placements for the 5thyear Pupils (and some S4 and S6 pupils too) which provided valuable practical and purposeful work placements for 17 young people in 12 Dunblane businesses, although 30 Dunblane businesses responded positively to participation and we hope to work with everyone again in future phases.
Plans are now underway to develop this successful pilot and to deliver a similar programme in June 2017 as well as looking at offering short business placements for teaching staff to provide them with an insight into a range of businesses which will help them to better inform and prepare young people for the world of work.
The report following the November 2016 pilot programme is available to download here
